This anime starts out very light hearted but as it goes on starts to develop more of a serous tone. We start out as the main character, Otonashi, wakes up and learn that he is in a place where souls go after they die but cant accept something or don’t know how they died. Once they do accept it or finish something they needed to do they move on. There is a group known as Shinda Sekai Sensen (sss), lead by Yuri, that fight against there fate so that they can figure out a way to go back to there life. They fight against “angel” because they believe that she is the one making them move on.

the art in this anime is simply stunning, most of the time. Now your all looking at me like “wtf does that mean??? did they draw stick figures for part of the anime?” ok maybe your not but on to my point. Anytime this anime is out side or in a fight scene the art and animation is vivid. to me it was almost like seeing a von go painting that moved, it was that good. now for the “most of the time” bit. There were times when it seemed as if the animators did not want to do a lot of work, namely the episode where they had to go underground. it was prity much an episode filled with tunnels and traps…honestly how hard is it to draw a tunnel and a hammer coming out the wall, or a bolder chasing them? not very, right. This only happened twice in the anime though, and the second time was much faster then the first. Everything else
was awesome. I have tried to make a simple animation of of a stick figure playing a guitar (school project long time ago, dont ask) and it is very hard to time any sort of cord to actual music but this anime did it masterfully.

This anime had amazing music, in fact there were like 4 episodes that centered around music. So while everyone is fighting to try and go back to there lives there is a sub group dedicated to being a band. There job is to distract the student body while everything else happens. The insert songs are beautiful and work well with the animation its behind. the fight scenes feel like there is more action, and the serous scenes are that much more dramatic. the opening and ending songs were also very nice. Though the opening is basically just an introduction to most of the characters and the ending is just a still photo that seems to grow the songs are tranqual and smooth.

my song

Ichiban no Takaramono (this song makes me want to cry some times….hey guys can cry to!)

oh my god there are so many…ill hit the main characters and some that i like.
Otonashi the main character of the story has lost all his memories of how he died and joined with the SSS. Tenshi (aka angel) is thought to be a program like the other students that is meant to keep order at the school. Yuri is the leader of the SSS, she’s the leader because she was the first one to not wont to leave and start fighting back. Hinata is the first person Otonashi meets and they become best friends. Iwasawa is a musician and the leader of GDM (girls dead monster) until she disappears. Yui was a huge fan girl of GDM then became the lead singer when Iwasawa disappeared.

This was one of the best if not the best anime in the 2010 line up. it was funny, sad, and made me almost cry at the end (OK i shed more then one tear, are you happy now?). The story was well worked out and easily followed, there was never a point where anything felt forced. the music matched the animation beautifully and the character development was very very deep. i highly recommend everyone watch this anime as soon as you can.

My personal rating for this would be an 9.5/10 (only because the ending made me cry a little….)

I loved it too. Yeah the ending was sad but I feel like that made it so much better. It added style and forced the main character to confront reality himself. My favorite in 2010 too.

On the whole, I still think that it would have been better if it was longer by say, just about 4 to 5 more episodes, just to further develop some of the things. Nevertheless, it sure is an enjoyable series
